Holding our S%*t Together

At a moment when more and more of life is automated, there is something quietly radical about making with our own hands. Stitching draws on a unique kind of intelligence: material, tactile, imperfect and distinctly human.

Two workshops. Take either one, or follow the thread through both.

The workshops are connected, but each stands on its own.

Part I begins with stitch, rhythm and small marks. We’ll learn four basic stitches and explore how endlessly they can be varied and combined.

Part II takes these explorations into something tangible: a bag to hold a gift or treasure, or a piece of clothing repaired or remade.

Join one workshop, or come to both and continue the exploration.

The workshops will take place with a minimum of 5 participants. If fewer than 5 people register, your payment will be fully refunded.

PART 1

breath // stitch // repeat

Sunday, November 1, 2026
11am–1:30pm ET
$40

Group size
Small gathering of 5–7 people, leaving room for conversation, questions and individual attention.

Part I begins with the calming rhythm of breath and stitch, and with enjoying and relearning slowness.

We’ll work with four simple stitches — seed, running, blanket and chain — and explore their many variations. Rather than following a pattern, stitches accumulate through repetition, improvisation and attention. Each becomes a small record of a moment.

We’ll talk about creativity, art, resources and whatever arises while stitching together. Any question about life after a transatlantic move is welcome as well.

What we’ll explore

  • 4 basic stitches and their variations: seed, running, blanket and chain
  • repetition, rhythm and improvisation
  • making marks with thread without following a pattern
  • stitch as a way of recording time and attention

PART II

stitch // shape // hold

Sunday, November 8, 2026
11am–1:30pm ET
$40

Group size
Small gathering of 5–7 people, leaving room for conversation, questions and individual attention.

Part II takes the stitches and explorations from Part I into an object that can be held, used, given, repaired or carried into everyday life.

A small bag can hold a gift or treasure. A piece of clothing can be repaired or changed. The stitches learned in Part I become a vocabulary to work with rather than a prescribed design.

The focus remains on simple materials, experimentation and discovering what happens when a few basic stitches are repeated, altered and combined.

You can take Part II independently. Familiarity with basic hand stitching is useful, but you do not need to have taken Part I.

What we’ll explore

  • translating stitch experiments into an object
  • combining and varying stitches
  • working with materials you already have
  • repair, alteration and making as forms of transformation

The workshop will take place with a minimum of 5 participants. If fewer than 5 people register, your payment will be fully refunded.

What you’ll need

Nothing specialized. The workshops are designed around simple materials and what is already at hand.

Fabric – cotton, linen or wool, or anything you might you want to stitch on (nothing too tightly woven)
A range of threads
Embroidery/ sewing needles
Scissors
An embroidery hoop

For Part II, it is recommended to bring a variety of fabrics to explore potential and practicality of diverse fibers and weaving structures.

Let’s stitch a life together.
