This was my “Room with a View” this summer: One foggy late summer morning from my bed room window in the Black Forest.
After a long summer here in Germany I’m now ready to go home.
I found plenty of inspiration in the soft and muted colors and patterns of Southern Germany. The images below were taken in and around Freiburg:
Below is the small German/Swiss border town of Laufenburg which is divided by the Rhine and connected by bridge. People can easily stroll from Germany to Switzerland and back, much to the amazement to my daughter, who is used to random airport searches and suited security guards.
Even the sidewalk reminds me that it’s time to go home.

Oh nein, schon wieder jemand aus der virtuellen Welt, den ich hätte treffen können, in persona. Gut, ihr wart bestimmt beschäftigt. Magst du sagen, wo genau im Schwarzwald du warst? Ich komme ursprünglich von dort und so sah meine Kindheit aus… je älter ich werde, umso mehr vermisse ich diese Heimat, auch wenn ich zu gut weiß wie schrecklich es sein kann auf dem Land zu leben. Liebe Grüße!
Oh wie schade, das waere ja so schoen gewesen. Es ist so schoen blogger in persona zu treffen. Wir waren ‘auf dem Land’ in der Naehe von Neustadt (weit genug entfernt von Titisee!). Wir sind zwei mal nach Freibug gefahren und waren sehr begeistert. Es fuehlte sich weitaus suedlicher an als in meiner Erinnerung.
Also falls ihr das irgendwann in der Zukunft mal wiederholt (so was macht man ja wahrscheinlich nicht jedes Jahr), können wir uns gerne treffen. In Freiburg habe ich studiert und ich hänge noch sehr an der Stadt – gerne wäre ich dort geblieben. Ursprünglich komme ich aus der Gegend nördlich von Freiburg (ja, ich bin nicht so weit gekommen
, ca. 1 Std. Fahrt. Der Schwarzwald ist schon was Eigenes, vor allem wenn man nicht mehr dort wohnt… wenn man das immer sieht, nimmt man das Besondere nicht mehr wahr.

Oh wie schön, so schöne Fotos von Freiburg aus den USA zu sehen. (Wir sind an Freiburg gerade sehr interessiert, denn unsere Tochter wird ab nächsten Monat dort studieren.) Beruhigend, dass dich die Gegend so inspiriert hat – das lässt mich hoffen.
